Teacher Interns in Kenya: The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is inviting applications for 20,000 teacher internship positions for the 2023-2024 period. This initiative aims to support the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum in Kenya’s public primary and junior secondary schools.

How to Apply Teacher Interns in Kenya

Requirements for Junior Secondary School Teacher Interns

  • Must be a Kenyan citizen.
  • Hold at least a diploma in education with a minimum mean grade of C+ (plus) in the KCSE and C+ (plus) in two teaching subjects.
  • Must be a registered teacher with the TSC.

Requirements for Primary School Teacher Interns

  • Must be a Kenyan citizen.
  • Hold a PI Certificate.
  • Must be a registered teacher with the TSC.

Teachers with an Upgrade Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (CBC) will have an added advantage.

General Information for Teacher Interns in Kenya

  • Manual applications will not be considered.
  • Applicants must be unemployed and not previously employed by the TSC as an intern or on permanent terms.
  • Candidates will need to present original academic and professional certificates.
  • Successful candidates must obtain a Personal Accident Insurance cover for the internship period.
  • Selection is strictly on merit and based on the number of vacancies per county.
  • Successful candidates will be posted to schools in their county or any part of the country where vacancies exist.

  • National Council for Persons with Disability (NCPWD) card, if applicable.

  • Kenya Revenue Authority Personal Identification Number (KRA PIN).

Internship Details

  • The Teacher Interns in Kenya lasts for twelve months.
  • Primary school interns receive a monthly stipend of Kshs. 15,000, while junior secondary school interns receive Kshs. 20,000. Stipends are subject to statutory deductions.
  • Upon successful completion, interns will be awarded a certificate.
