NNPC Vacancy for Lead Counsel, Corporate Litigation

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is currently accepting applications for the position of Lead Counsel, Corporate Litigation. This role is integral in liaising with key government agencies to protect NNPC’s interests and provide guidance to staff during engagements with these agencies.

Objectives

The primary objectives for the Lead Counsel, Corporate Litigation include:

  • Ensuring the protection of NNPC’s interests by liaising with agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police.
  • Guiding NNPC staff on how to effectively engage with these agencies.

Key Responsibilities

The Lead Counsel will be responsible for several critical tasks, including:

  1. Liaison with Agencies
    • Regularly liaise with agencies like EFCC, ICPC, DSS, and the Nigeria Police on matters involving NNPC.
    • Ensure that the interests of NNPC are well-represented and protected in all engagements with these agencies.
  2. Guidance and Support to Staff
    • Provide guidance to NNPC staff on how to engage with the aforementioned agencies.
    • Offer training and support to ensure staff are well-prepared for interactions with these entities.
  3. Record Keeping and Monitoring

Educational Qualifications

Candidates must possess the following qualifications:

  • A university degree in Law.
  • Barrister at Law (BL) qualification is mandatory.
  • Professional qualifications and membership in relevant professional bodies such as the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) are required.

Experience

The ideal candidate should have:

  • A minimum of 9 years of relevant post-qualification experience.
  • Experience in the oil and gas industry, which will be an added advantage.

Competence

The role requires a robust skill set, including:

  • Knowledge of oil and gas industry regulations.
  • Case management skills.
  • Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution skills.
  • Legal drafting skills.
