The Role: Accountant-1 in Gaborone
As an Accountant-1, you will play a critical role in monitoring financial data and preparing accurate statements for the business unit. This position requires a thorough understanding of accounting principles and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). You will support business unit investments and provide high-level financial expertise to drive the bank’s success.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver exceptional customer service with proactive, innovative, and appropriate solutions.
- Prepare and load fixed asset information in Oracle, Essbase, and HFM.
- Identify, depreciate, and maintain fixed assets, both tangible and intangible.
- Review and enforce financial regulations and policies related to fixed asset management.
- Handle reconciliations and disputes concerning fixed assets.
- Report discrepancies to appropriate department heads.
- Ensure compliance with legislative and audit requirements and liaise with external auditors.
- Assess information, identify abnormal variances, investigate, and provide solutions.
- Draw management attention to variances and seek explanations and remedial actions.
- Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to accounts, including general ledger accounts.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting for asset depreciation.
- Identify process improvements for cost savings or efficiency enhancements.
- Conduct deep dives into portfolio data, analyze financial data, and interpret fixed asset register data to determine past financial performance and project financial probabilities.
- Oversee supplier reconciliations, payments, and query resolution.
