Job Summary
The Ophthalmic Practitioner is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of patient registration, maintaining orderliness in the clinic, and managing records for both pre-operative and post-operative patients.
Responsibilities
Admissions:
- Escort patients to the designated care area and ensure the room is prepared.
- Perform biometry if not already done and call the lab scientist if needed.
- Ensure theatre gowns are available in all rooms and assist patients in wearing them.
- Raise bills for patients and ensure gowns are removed post-surgery.
- Check and record pre-op and post-op vital signs, and transfer patients to the theatre.
- Verify payment for surgery and ensure patient comfort.
- Provide juice and water in the patient’s fridge and escort patients back to the ward after surgery.
- Enter post-op details on the Indigo system and ensure all records are marked as complete.
- Write AEC for patients and ensure proper handover.
Night Duty Admissions:
- Take over from the morning shift and remove eye pads from patients.
- Perform post-op visual acuity (VA) checks and record results.
- Tag surgery files and update VA in the Excel sheet.
- Ensure all necessary documents and equipment are available for the next day’s surgeries.
- Prepare the theatre at 6 am and ensure all pre-op preparations are complete.
Ward Assistant (Admissions):
- Provide complimentary drinks and snacks to in-patients.
- Raise bills and enter patient details into the Indigo system.
- Ensure patient rooms are stocked with water, juice, and toiletries.
- Assist with patient counseling and approval processes.
- Update surgeries in the Excel sheet and complete discharge records.
- Verify kitchen meal invoices and scan/upload operation notes.
Clinic Morning Duty:
- Attend morning meetings and ensure the clinic is ready by 8:10 am.
- Stock consulting rooms with necessary supplies, including prescription sheets, lenses, and appointment sheets.
- Ensure all equipment, including the slit lamp and indirect ophthalmoscope, is operational.
- Enter patient details into the Indigo system and manage patient flow to consultants or residents.
- Maintain cleanliness and readiness of consulting rooms, especially on Sundays.
Outpatient Department:
- Collect files from the inside-stationed nurse and ensure vital signs are recorded in the VA room.
- Carry out instructions, including dilation and navigation to procedures or counseling departments.
