Key Responsibilities

As a Legal Officer at Kenya Power, your primary duties will include:

  • Litigation Management: Representing the company in Superior and Subordinate Courts, tribunals, and before government agencies. This includes preparing and filing legal documents, conducting pre-trial briefings, and participating in site visits.
  • Contract and Document Review: Drafting, negotiating, vetting, and ensuring the execution of contracts and agreements. This also involves drawing up leases and other conveyancing documents related to company properties.
  • Legal Research and Advisory: Conducting thorough research and analysis of legal matters, interpreting laws and rulings, and providing informed legal opinions. You’ll also engage in amicable settlements and provide guidance on compliance with statutory legislation and regulatory issues.
  • Corporate Governance and Compliance: Supporting board meetings, maintaining corporate records, and ensuring adherence to corporate governance standards. This includes handling employment-related legal matters and promoting ethical practices within the organization.
  • Risk Management: Identifying and assessing legal risks, developing risk mitigation strategies, and assisting in implementing risk management policies.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a recognized institution and a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
  • Professional Membership: Must be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid practicing certificate and a member in good standing with the Law Society of Kenya.
  • Experience: Candidates must have graduated after 2020 with at least a second-class honors degree. Successful applicants will undergo an 18-month training program, including classroom sessions, mentorship, hands-on projects, and rotations across various departments.
