Key Responsibilities
The Coordinator – Regional Safety will report to the Manager – Safety within the Human Resources division. The primary mission of this role is to manage risks effectively while ensuring compliance with local laws and global industrial safety practices. Here are the core responsibilities:
- Risk Management and Compliance: Ensure that MTN’s safety systems and processes align with local laws and global best practices.
- Safety Audits and Assessments: Conduct regular audits and risk assessments of work areas, operations, critical jobs, and tasks to maintain a safe working environment.
- Safety Surveillance: Identify hazards through regular safety and health surveillance and actively work to prevent incidents.
- Contractor Safety Performance: Evaluate and monitor contractor safety performance and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Incident Investigation: Participate in incident investigations, establish root causes, and implement recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.
- Safety Reporting: Produce weekly, monthly, and quarterly safety performance reports to support overall safety objectives.
- Engagement with Regulatory Bodies: Regularly engage with regulatory and government agencies to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Safety Processes and Procedures: Develop, review, and document safety processes and procedures in line with best practices.
Educational and Professional Requirements
Candidates should possess a first degree in sciences, engineering, arts, or humanities and have completed NYSC. Additional qualifications like an MSc or MBA in a relevant field are advantageous. Professional certifications required include:
- Membership in the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON)
- NEBOSH IGC Certificate and/or Diploma
- ISO 45001 Certification (preferred)
Experience in SHE management, proficiency in MS Office applications, and familiarity with SHE software tools are also essential.
Experience
Candidates should have 3-7 years of relevant experience in SHE management and coordination, particularly within a medium-sized organization. The role demands a solid background in professional safety, health, and environmental functions.
